About The Racer configuration-override file.

During the creation of this game, they have taken into account as many types of Macintosh computers as possible. Sometimes, a computer comes out with a new feature that they did not anticipated.

This file has been made available by the programmers of podracer, so that you can customize this game to work on almost any new Mac that comes out.

Each line in the file is a "switch" which will override the game settings, if activated.

The first set of switches is VERY safe.

You may turn them on and off as you like, without worrying about causing problems.

no sound

Don't play sound in the game (speeds up some computers a LOT.)

no background

sprites Don't load background screens (speeds up some computers a little.)

no textures

Don't use texture-mapping (speeds up some computers a LOT.)

no video play

Don't play the video sequences

constant clock

Make the game play in fast-forward when you're on a fast computer.

show credits

Show the credits after the first race is over.

joystick interface

Use the joystick, wheel, or gamepad to control the user interface.

(note: Some controllers may interfere with menu operation.)

This next set of switches is useful for power-users who aren't afraid to experiment. NOTE: These are UNSUPPORTED features that were only made available because they are nifty.

Use them at your own risk, and be careful! These options may cause your game to crash if used improperly.

multiplayer_plus

Allows use of upgraded pods in Multiplayer mode.

When this is on, go into single-player mode to activate the saved game you want to use, and then enter a Multiplayer game. Note: The other players will know you're using an upgraded pod!

no_GL_check

Don't check to see if you have the correct GL version This may be useful when using a non-built-in 3D board.

full_sound_32MB

The highest quality sound effects and music, for very fast Macintosh models with a lot of memory.

Note: if you set this option, you must use "Get Info" in the Finder to increase the game's memory requirement from 9000k to 32000k.

Windowed

Try to run the game in a window, like a Desk Accessory.

Not all models will support this, and other programs (like the Finder) may get weird.

Use these to set the game's display resolution to any value you want to try.
